British TV production facilities have backed the BBC's proposal for a permanent free-to-air hi-def channel.
UK Screen, which represents production and post-production suppliers and facilities, said its members are investing heavily in hi-def.
But it told the BBC Trust that not enough content is being produced in HD, accounting for at best 25% of UK Screen members' business.
The BBC Trust is currently gathering opinions about the BBC HD proposal for a Public Value Test to determine whether it should go ahead.
Gaynor Davenport, Chief executive of UK Screen, said: "We believe a permanent BBC HDTV channel will deliver public value and stimulate growth in the domestic market."
