Incoming secretary of state for culture, James Purnell, has made broadcasting part of his senior ministerial responsibilities.

Purnell MP will now answer questions on TV and radio policy issues, and
oversee the switchover from analogue to digital TV, starting this
autumn.
Mr Purnell will also be the point man for Ofcom's Digital
Dividend Review and the crucial decision about reserving bandwidth for
hi-def TV on Freeview.
